OpenAccounts Hot Tips

Users on version 5 Patch 9 and above have the option of determining if the column headings in their EDR Management Reports are set in the XLS template, or are regenerated from Column Format Maintenance each time the report is created.   Users may want to set their column headings in their template, if they have long complex headings that are difficult to capture in Column Format Maintenance.   On the other hand, users may want to set their column headings in Column Format Maintenance to take advantage of <<insert codes>> that allow the creation date, month end date, year end date and other information to be entered and regenerated at run time.   Set the DOC parameter in ED04, Report Generation, to use the column headings that are set in the template.

If you're wondering if OpenAccounts can perform differently than it is currently performing for your system, check out the Process Parameters document located in the OpenAccounts folder on your OA server.   Although the location may vary from site to site, this document directory is usually at:

To customize your system by setting the appropriate parameters:

  1. Go to System Utilities.
  2. Click Menus and Programs, Properties, and choose the Programs tab.
  3. Find the program: click Locate, type the program name (e.g., "SL15") in the box, and click OK.
  4. Click Properties and choose the Additional tab.
  5. Jot down the existing contents of the Process Parameters, for backup.
  6. Enter the desired parameters in the Process Parameter text box as a comma-separated list.
Did you know that there is lots of OpenAccounts documentation available to you, above and beyond the online help?   You may need help from your system administrator to access it, but there is a directory on your OA server that contains a number of documents in Microsoft Word or PDF formats.   Although the location may vary from site to site, the document directory is usually located at:

\openacc\oalive50\document\

Within this directory, there are a number of subdirectories that may be of interest to you:

Release Notes Details about specific Patch releases, fixes, changes, etc.
technical\Admin & installation System administration guides: installation, patch installation, printing, scheduler, etc.
technical\Parameters Program parameters that can be set to alter how certain OA programs behave (default sort sequences, etc.)
 
There are many options to design your Management Reports to run more efficiently.   For example, although you can enter a "*" in the from box in GL or Project Source selection, it is more efficient to use the coding <blank> to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Users on Version 5 Patch 6 and above can now update OpenLink records directly from the Interface Maintenance screen.   Highlight the record that you want to update, and clock on the "update" icon at the top left of the screen.

Beginning with Version 5 Patch 6, you can access a report of OpenLink records.   From Interface Maintenance, click on the printer button.
